North Carolina People Search Is Not a Government Office. This is a privately run reference resource. We cannot retrieve or certify a record, verify a person's residence, or erase data from another system. Those requests must go to the official custodian. Call 911 for an emergency. Contact local law enforcement if stalking or harassment is involved.

Find the Correct Records Office

North Carolina has no single custodian for every record. Start with the office responsible for the record type:

  • Deeds, liens, plats, and local marriage records: use the county Register of Deeds finder linked from North Carolina public records
  • Civil, criminal, estate, and divorce case files: locate the filing-county Clerk of Superior Court through the North Carolina court search
  • Statewide vital certificates: contact NC Vital Records; a county register may also supply a locally filed birth, death, or marriage record
  • Registration records and voter files: use North Carolina voter records and the county board finder
  • Government, school, professional, and historical listings: use the North Carolina people directories
  • Unpublished government material: send a narrow request under North Carolina Public Records Law, Chapter 132, to the agency that created or holds it
  • Community-specific sources: choose the relevant local resource from the city and county directory
